Slowie and $H The Producer return to DeeOh7 with ‘What You Know About’ - reflecting a deeper, more introspective mood from the Bristol-based musical partners and long-term friends.

Tempered but unabashed and forthright as ever, Slowie shares a heartfelt, personal tale of coming of age in gritty 1980s East Bristol across a stripped-down production from $H. Interweaving a simple, chilling piano loop and spine-shifting pitched vocal sample behind Slowie’s ragged flows, ‘What You Know About’ sits satisfyingly in that grey area between grime and rap.

An undisputed heavyweight of Bristol grime - with past releases on SWAMP81, Deep Dark & Dangerous and Durkle Disco, plus a string of electrifying radio performances on Rinse, SWU FM and Reprezent - Slowie’s punchline heavy, unashamedly West Country style has stood him and his voice out as unique, in both his hometown and far beyond.

Sharing that upward trajectory, $H The Producer arrives on the back of a busy 12 months - both alongside Slowie and as a solo producer - with releases like ‘Silence The Whisperers’ and ‘Views From Feltham Court’ showcasing a soulful, synth-driven sound that nods back to the retro-futurism of golden era acts Ruff Sqwad and The Movement.

Backing the single is a goosebump raising visual, written by Slowie himself and directed by regular DeeOh7 collaborator Blue Hat Visuals. More short film than standard music video and shot in a mix of black-&-white and colour, the gritty visual lurches back to the doom and gloom of East Bristol in the dying days of Thatcher’s Britain, soaking the track with deeper context and bringing the music to vivid life.
