Fresh off the back of his feature on Slowie & $H The Producer’s ‘DPMO’, and a show stopping performance of the track at Bristol’s Love Saves The Day festival, Firee Young steps up to the plate with ‘I Neverrr’, his debut solo release on the DeeOh7 imprint. An integral part of the grime scene in his hometown since its earliest days, as both MC and videographer, ‘I Neverrr’ sees Firee Young break down his journey in music over a blistering instrumental from his long-time friend and sometimes collaborator $H The Producer, proving that, as the tune says, their styles “gel marvellous”. Firee’s bars manage to effortlessly sway from introspective to confident and punchline heavy, with an unashamedly Bristolian inflection that will already be familiar to followers of DeeOh7. As we’ve come to expect, $H provides the perfect backdrop for the vocals – a tension filled & string-heavy intro, including ghostly samples of some of Firee Young’s standout older tracks, gives way to a soaring and hard hitting grime banger. More essential grime pressure from this rising Bristol label/collective.
